EVELYN COOPER Certificate Secretary
Evelyn is a foundation member of the Waimarino Riding Club. She is a member of the NZRC National Committee and became Chairman of the Training Sub-Committee and Examination Secretary in 1995. She helped to get the Riding & Road Safety Certificate up and running for members and non-members including children. She encourages all the local Pony Club children to sit the test - Road Safety is very important.
Evelyn coordinated the compilation of the first NZRC Dressage Tests, and is now working with Jeanette Garrett (the NZRC Chief Examiner) and the Training Committee on the NZRC Certificates, replacing the old Examinations. Many of these Modules will be available as Recognised Prior Learning for Equine Qualifications on the NZQA. The Riding & Road Safety Certificate is already recognised.
On a personal level, Evelyn has one son who is a qualified carpenter and in 1994 was NZ Skier of the Year and Disabled Skier of the year. He has won one Bronze, one Silver and four Gold Medals in the Disabled Winter Olympics over three Olympics. Her daughter instructs at Pony Club and still rides, as does her grand-daughter who rides a very talented cheeky part Arab bred by Evelyn.
Evelyn has ridden for years, and gained the NZRC Grade III Riding and Horsemanagement Examinations. She still competes at Training level in dressage and eventing. Breaking in and training young horses she has bred keeps her busy, although she is riding the last of these youngsters now. Instructing at Pony Club is a continuing interest and she holds the EITP Level 4 (B Certificate) Qualification and takes 'D'Level Instructors Courses nd tutors at 'D' and 'C' Level.
Part time relieving work as a receptionist for the Department of Conservation in Ohakune keeps her mind active. Other interests include family and friends, vegetable gardening, bird watching, the Anglican Church, and tramping.
