SOUTH ISLAND TEAMS EVENT - 2007

Paroa Domain  in Greymouth was the venue for the 2007 South Island Teams Event (SITE) hosted by Grey Valley Riding Club aka The Wild West Coasters – the 2006 winners.

Being a small Club with limited members and amenities, it was almost a full time job organising the event.  So, much to everyone’s relief Easter weekend dawned bright and dry, which set the competition off to a good start.

The teams competing at SITE this year were The Bunnies and Cops and Robbers from Reefton, Nelson Thrillers from Nelson, The Pegasus Flyers and SRRC Rockers from Canterbury.

The Quadrille was held on Saturday afternoon and proved to be very entertaining, drawing quite a crowd of passing spectators on the main road.  It was fantastic to see how much thought and effort had gone into the music selection, not to mention the highly amusing costumes – both equine and human.  However the winners of the quadrille were The Pegasus Flyers with an excellent dressage display.

After a very social dinner for the teams on Saturday night, SITE continued on Sunday with  Turnout, Hunter Jumping, Team Relay, SJ Relay and also Riding Club Mount which incorporated some West Coast activities such as white baiting, delivering Rural Post and carrying an open umbrella; for the rain that never eventuated.

Grey Valley Riding Club would like to congratulate and hand over the host reins to The Pegasus Flyers - the overall winners of SITE 2007.

A huge thanks must be given to Horse & Pony for sponsoring the ribbons for SITE again this year.
